Rudie’s Jerk Shack announce opening date in Brixton Village

22 October 2020

Matin and Michelle Miah, the husband and wife team behind Rudie’s Jerk Shack, have announced the opening date of their third site in Brixton Village, Tuesday 10th November.

The couple will bring their authentic take on Jamaican cuisine to Brixton, with the return being particularly significant to Michelle who spent a lot of time in the South London Borough visiting her grandmother. Split across two levels, the 50 cover restaurant, with indoor and outdoor table service, will be located in Market Row.

Michelle will once again draw on her Jamaican heritage to create a menu that is full of innovative, authentic dishes packed full of flavour. The menu at Brixton will feature their famed ‘Real Jerk’, with meats and fish marinated for 24 hours in their secret blend of herbs and spices, before being grilled and smoked slowly over charcoal in a steel drum. Diners can expect Jerk Chicken served with ‘rude’ sauces and jerk gravy, Jerk Lamb Rump with scotch bonnet jam and Jerk Swordfish with coriander lime sauce.

Other favourites will include the Yardi Classic of Curry Goat - bone in goat and potato curry served with rice and peas, and Roti Wraps, either the Chicken - Jerk chicken, slaw, crispy salad, jerk gravy and rude sauces or the Channa Roti Wrap - chickpea and potato curry, crispy salad and rude sauces both served with fries.

Not to be outdone, the ‘Likkle’ selection will include Jamaica’s national dish, Ackee & Saltfish, alongside Boston Wings - Jerked chicken wings, Stamp & Go - sweetcorn and pepper fritters and Peppa Swimp - Middle Quarter style spicy king prawns.

The drinks list will naturally include a selection of rum based cocktails, including their lethal Rum Punch - Wray & Nephew, Appleton Signature Blend and Fruit Juices, along with a Ting Wray - Wray & Nephew, Ting Grapefruit Soda and Fresh Lime and a Jamaican Mule - Appleton Rum, Ginger Ale and Fresh Lime. The menu will also feature a selection of beers and wines. Guests will also be able to take advantage of Rudie’s Irie Hour, which will run from Tuesday - Fridays from 5pm - 7pm where guests can receive two cocktails for the price of one.

Commenting on the launch Michelle Miah says ‘Matin and I are very excited about the launch and to bring our dishes to Brixton. Having visited Jamaica many times we know authenticity and flavour is key when serving Jamaican dishes. I have spent a lot of my childhood in Brixton with my Jamaican grandma and I know that our research, tasting and trying as much as possible has enabled us to create dishes that we are really proud of.’
