Chef Glynn Purnell is now opening a pub after closing his Birmingham bistro

21 January 2022

Birmingham's best-known chef is opening a new pub and restaurant.

The Mount by Glynn Purnell will be located in a 200-year-old building on the High Street in medieval market town Henley-in-Arden. It will open at the end of March.

Described as a "new and exciting eating & drinking experience," replaces the former The Butchers Social pub, which has moved to The Forest Hotel in Dorridge.

It is the chef owner's latest venture after closing Purnell's Bistro in the city centre.

The focus of the menu at The Mount will be pub food, but of course, nothing like your average pub grub - being very much in keeping with the Purnell's ethos - having the innovative, creative edge Glynn is renowned for.

Glynn told BirminghamLive: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be opening The Mount in Henley in Arden. The Mount is my first venture outside of Birmingham city centre and I’m very excited to be joining such a thriving community as Henley in Arden.

There is no opening date for The Mount as its new home is currently undergoing refurbishment work.

Glynn is also set to open a new place in Coventry - a fine dining restaurant at the city's historic Charterhouse - a former monastery - in the hope that people in Coventry would be encouraged to come to Birmingham and vice versa as both cities are "only two stops away" by train.
