Local Camden favourite, ‘The Monarch’, reopens as ‘The Monarchy’, following new ownership and renovation

26 July 2021

The Monarchy pub in Camden has reopened after being taken over by Budweiser Brewing Group UK & Ireland.

The 220-capacity venue will create 15 new jobs and sees an evolution of local favourite – The Monarch. Installing the mantra of “Your Kingdom, Your Way”, Monarchy aims to position itself back into the heart of the community.

The technology installed throughout the pub will play a key role in achieving this, as it enables the team to update the venue’s feel and design to create the best atmosphere for whatever experience is taking place through each event. From a simple online ordering system and self-serving taps to smart LED lighting and digital font screens throughout the pub, the combination enables the team at Monarchy to adapt to each event’s needs.

This is wrapped in the décor of the pub which has an array of art on offer. One of the standout pieces is the super scale mural that sits behind the main bar. An illustration created by London based illustrator Kate Philipson, which has been created to tell a story of the Camden community and the Monarchy’s future in it.

Dan Mbaye, Manager of Monarchy, said, “It’s been great to watch the final touches of the pub come together. The design really has a nod to The Monarch, whilst the new features will enhance visitors’ overall experience. We’ve really been looking forward to opening our doors up so people can catch-up with friends and family again in a more regular setting. We’ve got an array of pints and bottles available including Stella Artois and Corona, and we’re sure we’ll have something for everyone”

The Monarchy will continue to play homage to the location’s rich musical history, with music lovers invited to enjoy the live acoustic music that will be taking place. The pub is set to have a host of other live music and DJ sets in the coming future, with performances from a plethora of artists covering various genres that will suit everyone’s taste.

Those not lucky enough to get a ticket to see an artist performing at the Roundhouse can watch live streams of performances by heading down into The Vault – a dedicated screening area within Monarchy. The area is furnished with five super scaled screens that create a 180-degree wraparound, ensuring every seat is the best in the house. Screens will feature major events taking place, from key sporting fixtures to renowned music festivals. It can also be rented out for private hire and boasts its own self-serving Lindr machine.

Aaron Smedley, Retail On-Trade Director at Budweiser Brewing Group said “We’re so excited to be opening Monarchy. The events of the past year have had a devastating impact on the hospitality sector in the UK, so we’re thrilled to be able to open Monarchy and keep this local hot spot alive.

We recognise the deep connection between this pub and the local community, so it’s been vital to us to keep what people loved most about The Monarch, whilst implementing what we felt only enhanced the experience with how the pub is designed. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in.”

Those looking to bask in sunshine or have a bite to eat will be thrilled to know each are available. Visitors can enjoy an outdoor seating area along with street food favourite, Nanny Bill’s Kitchen taking residency – famous for mac & cheese croquettes and gravy dipped burgers. Hungry customers can order throughout the space.

Darren Simpson, Founder of Nanny Bill’s said, “We’re hyped to be back in Camden at our brand-new home, the amazing new venue Monarchy, bringing our banging burgers and irresistible sides back to the streets of North West London.”
