Red's True BBQ open new bar Louie’s Liquor Store in Newcastle

Wings, sports and entertainment every day are all on the menu at Newcastle’s newest bar, which opens this weekend.

Louie’s Liquor Store, at Nelson Street, officially opens for the public to see its new look on Friday and Saturday night (6 and 7 December), with live bands until late.

Red’s True Barbecue, which is now owned by Aaron Mellor's Tokyo Industries after it was acquired out of administration in the summer, has converted its Red's site to the new format.

The new venue takes inspiration from the bars of the American Deep South, with spacious booths, a distressed wooden interior and a huge stage – fit for its ambitious entertainment programme.

Those visiting during the week can make the most of a quiz night, food challenges, live comedy and music, and Sing for Wings – an open mic night hosted by David Stoker where the audience decides who is good enough to get a free serving of chicken wings.

Fans can enjoy live screenings of their favourite sports, including football, NFL games and boxing, starting with Anthony Joshua v Andy Ruiz II on Saturday night.

Every Friday and Saturday the venue will welcome live bands, with free entry all night, and the bar will also serve a selection of food including beef jerky, burgers and wings – with more than 20 sauces to choose from.

The bar also has its own line of craft beers, brewed specifically for Louie’s Liquor Store and free to play pool and fuseball tables.

James Douglas of Louie’s Liquor Store, believes there is something for everyone throughout the week.

“We’ve worked really hard to transform the bar into a real hub of entertainment and the finished design looks fantastic,” said James.

“We really wanted to create a space where it’s just as fun to visit midweek as it is at the weekend, so it’s a great place to catch up with friends over a quiz or grab a drink after work.

“We can’t wait to see what people think of the bar at the launch this weekend and we’ve got some really exciting plans in the pipeline going forward.”
