Jollibee will open new Leicester branch this week

19 November 2020

Fast food chain Jollibee, which originated in the Philippines, will open in Leicester this week

Jollibee in Humberstone Gate will launch on Friday, November 20.

It will be the third Jollibee restaurant in the UK, and the first in the Midlands.

Initially, the restaurant will open for takeaways only, in line with current Government regulations.

Deliveries will soon be available and dine-in will follow as soon as the lockdown rules are lifted.

The Leicester restaurant - which has created 50 jobs - is opening in the former home of Select Fashion, which closed in March this year.

The Leicester Jollibee is the first in the UK to sell all Halal meat.

Jollibee opened its first UK restaurant, in Earls Court, London, in October 2018. It opened its second UK branch, in Liverpool last month.

Jollibee plans to open restaurants in every city across the country over the next five years. Openings in the pipeline include sites in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham, Reading and a flagship site in London’s Leicester Square on the former Select unit on Humberstone Gate.

The Jollibee story began in an ice cream shop which opened in 1975 in the Philippines.

The shop started to sell fried chicken, burgers and fries, and when these items became more popular than the ice cream, it was converted into a fast food restaurant and Jollibee was born.

Jollibee Leicester will be open from 10am until 10pm daily, from Friday, November 20.
