Green light for Bakers Yard shipping container mixed-use scheme in NE

31 March 2020

Plans for the installation of a number of shipping containers on a business park development in Newcastle, providing storage and hospitality uses have been approved.

Adderstone Group secured the approval from Newcastle City Council for a café, 14 shipping containers, associated branding and rooftop terraces at the group's Baker’s Yard scheme.

Baker's Yard is a 90,000 sq ft business park comprising approximately 180 parking spaces and more than 25 warehouses, offices and hybrid units on the site of the former Greggs headquarters.

The site, which is already 60 per cent let to a mix of industrial, office and leisure tenants, is due to be completed over the next 6 months. These proposals will enable the installation of branded shipping containers across the site for uses including storage, breakout spaces for staff, as well as a bike store to service tenants.

Adderstone Group has been working with Ryder Architecture, Youngs RPS and James Christopher Consulting on the containers and signage scheme.

Andy Kahn, managing director of Adderstone Estates, said: “This planning approval will enable us to deliver our bold vision for Baker’s Yard. We’re proud to see this once redundant site coming back to life.

"We’ve recently welcomed tenants including Solarglide, Document Solutions and Verisure, who are all now operating from the park, with others in pipeline to follow."
