15 November 2023

The new Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will open early next year, Boutique Hotelier has learned.

Speaking to BH, Susanne Hatje, general manager at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair said the 50-bedroom hotel on Hanover Square said it was a ‘privilege’ to open a new hotel in such a prestigious, historic area of London.

She also said the ‘core’ team have now been appointed with other recruitment ongoing.

She joined the project in 2021 from her role of general manager at Mandarin Oriental New York, the group’s flagship property in the US, where she had been for nine years.

The luxury new-build Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will act as a more intimate sibling site to Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park when it opens next year. The site also comprises 77 residences which have all been sold.

The hotel will house the first Akira Back restaurant in the UK from the Michelin Star chef of the same name, as well as his ‘ABar Lounge’ concept and Dosa restaurant.

Hatje said F&B at the hotel will be vibrant and contemporary and will aim to open up the brand to new markets in the capital.

There will also be an urban spa, focused on renewal and recalibration, which will comprise an indoor 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool, relaxation room and a number of bespoke wellness treatments.

A spa and wellness partner will be announced in the coming weeks.
