UK & Europe hotel performance

UK hotel market saw RevPAR and occupancy remain static in the week ending 17th May, according to the latest data from STR.

RevPAR was down 84% compared with the previous year while occupancy again during the week varied at between 20% and 30%.

STR also explored performance in April where occupancy in UK hotels was just 21%. Among the key markets, Cambridge experienced the highest occupancy level, at 38%, while Belfast (9%) saw the lowest. Other cities with 30 per cent or more occupancy include Aberdeen (32%), Glasgow (30%) and Oxford (30%). London’s occupancy was 23%

The UK was ahead of other key countries in April, followed by France and Italy.

Europe hotel performance for April
Europe’s hotel industry reported unprecedented performance lows during April 2020, according to STR.

Occupancy was down 84.6% to 11.1%, ADR down 30.1% to €77.52 and RevPAR down 89.2% to €8.58. The absolute occupancy and RevPAR levels were the lowest for any month on record in Europe.

Russia
• Occupancy: -89.0% to 7.2%
• ADR: -25.3% to RUB3,712.65
• RevPAR: -91.8% to RUB267.20
The absolute levels in each of the three metrics were the lowest for any month in STR’s Russia database. Among key markets in the country, Moscow and Saint Petersburg saw single-digit absolute occupancy levels during the month, 9.1% and 2.8%, respectively.

Netherlands
• Occupancy: -90.0% to 8.2%
• ADR: -41.6% to €82.69
• RevPAR: -94.2% to €6.76
The absolute occupancy and RevPAR levels were the lowest for any month in STR’s Netherlands database. At the market-level, Amsterdam’s occupancy fell 92.6% to 6.4%.
