Former Poundstretcher site in Bristol to be transformed into multi-use venue under plans by Bloomsbury Leisure

Former retail unit in Bristol could be transformed into a multi-use venue.

A vacant shop unit in Bristol formerly occupied by a discount store chain could be transformed into a new multi-use venue.

Plans have been submitted to turn the building in East Street, Bedminster that was previously home to Poundstretcher into a production kitchen and tasting room for tortilla chips.

The proposals are headed up by Bloomsbury Leisure Group, which operates around 20 venues across the UK including The Lanes bowling alley and Crofters Rights music venue in Bristol.

Bloomsbury also purchased historic King Street pub the Llandoger Trow last year and reopened it earlier in June.

Bloomsbury Leisure Group said in its licence application that the multi-use space will have three uses, if plans are given the green light.

At its heart would be a "craft tortilla chip production kitchen" which would make and sell fresh tortilla chips, with a partially visible production facility.

This would run alongside a retail and tasting room, which would have a fully licensed bar where customers could "try...new flavours and shapes of chips" under the brand name Spikee.

This space would also act as a showcase for trade customers and offer a range of drinks including craft beers, wines and ciders for both on-site consumption and off-sales.

There would be a few tables and chairs outside on East Street, state the plans.

Thirdly, the venue would be an exhibition space which would be used for events and exhibitions, including live and recorded music.

The venue would have a 2am licence if plans are approved.
