Cosy Club to open largest site to date in Nottingham at end of January

06 January 2020

Cosy Club is to open its largest site to date in Nottingham later this month.

Opening in the premises of the old Victoria Club - on Wednesday, 29th January - the Grade II listed building, in Victoria Street, which has sat empty for the last 14 years following the closure of the casino and fine dining restaurant, which replaced the one-time gentleman's club.
Plans for the new venue were approved by city councillors back in April 2019.

The company plans minor internal alternations to the lavishly decorated building, which was constructed in the late 19th century for the Imperial Life and Fire Insurance Company. The building's beautiful stained glass windows will remain.

In 1913, the premises became the Reform Club, a place for Nottingham's new wealthy middle classes to meet for lunch, to drink and to engage in political discussion.

In the late 1960s the building enjoyed a revival when Nottingham businessman George Akins Sr acquired the freehold and transformed it into the Victoria Club, which quickly gained a reputation as one of the country’s finest private members' clubs, boasting a luxury unseen in any club outside of London before.

Amber Wood, managing director for The Cosy Club brand, says: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be opening our biggest Cosy Club so far, and we’re looking forward to bringing some delicious food and quirky style to Nottingham. It’s a great city and we are confident the locals will love it!”

“At Cosy Club, we serve up a sense of being somewhere special with a hint of nostalgia. From a lazy breakfast to family lunch or a night out in your glad rags, we’re set apart by the character of our team, elegance of our design and quality of our food and drink. We are excited for guests to experience the function rooms, which really are perfect for any occasion – even weddings catering for everyone! We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

And the company have also secured a site in Wolverhampton. The former Topshop site will their first outlet in the Black Country. The city centre site in Dudley Street has been closed since April but will reopen under the company’s Lounges brand.

And back in the East Midlands, another Loungers site was also recently confirmed for Newark, with plans to open in spring 2020.
