Inn Collection Group submits plans for new-build inn with rooms in Seaburn

The Inn Collection Group has submitted its plans for a 42-bedroom inn on Sunderland seafront.

The company announced plans for a 40-bedroom new build inn on Sunderland seafront as part of ongoing coastal regeneration investment in the resort, last month.

The group agreed terms with Sunderland City Council’s development company to purchase an unused site for the three-storey venue in Seaburn

Plans have now been lodged to transform the site formerly occupied by the Pullman Lodge hotel and restaurant, which was demolished in 2017.

Under the plans, 42 rooms would include two allocated for managers’ accommodation alongside a ground-floor family restaurant. A 60-space car park would be created to the rear and include two electric car-charging ports. The proposals have been designed to fit in with the council’s vision for the seafront, which includes the recently approved STACK shipping container village.

Inn Collection Group managing director Sean Donkin said: “It will fill a gap in the market for visitor accommodation, encouraging people to extend their stay and spend in Sunderland and provide local people with a new place to eat and drink in a first-class location.”

Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, added: “Seaburn is the jewel in Sunderland’s crown. We want to enhance its natural charm and ensure it becomes a destination.”

The Inn Collection Group has a proven track record in delivering purpose-built inns, operating on a model that provides value-for-money accommodation, quality beverages and home-made pub fare served all day, 365 days a year.

Its most recent new-build developments include The Commissioners Quay Inn, in Blyth and The Amble Inn in Amble, a £4m development which opened in January.

If given the green light, the multi-million-pound unit will play a central role in the seaside resort’s ongoing transformation, with construction work expected to start by the end of the year and the building open for business by December 2020.
