A new Greek restaurant and bar has applied for planning permission to open on the site of a former pub in Redcliffe near Temple Meads station. Sousta hopes to open in the 1960s building on Clarence Road, a site that was previously the Mayor’s Arms pub.
In recent years, the property at 69 Clarence Road was the Raj Mahal Indian restaurant. It closed a couple of years ago and there were plans in 2017 to knock it down and turn it into student accommodation.
The original planning application for 20 student flats was not well received by local residents and an amended scheme from developers Developments Bristol was resubmitted in 2018. The amended proposal was to demolish the existing building and to build a mixed-use scheme of ten student apartments and office space on the ground floor - this application is still at the planning stage, according to Paul O'Brien of Developments Bristol.
